Frequently asked questions:
Does Bhagwan teach
from a particular religion or philosophy?
No. He offers an opportunity
for you to inquire directly into the nature of consciousness
through deep inner silence. His teaching is compatible with all
pursuits and helps one recognize the truth behind all paths.
What is Dr.Bhagwan
Awatramanis background?
Dr. Awatramani was initiated
into a meditation practice in the tradition of Ramana Maharshi
at the age of 22. Professionally, he was a doctor of medicine
for 25 years in Mumbai, India. Bhagwan is currently based in
Switzerland and gives seminars throughout Europe, North American
and India.
What takes place at
the public lecture?
This hour-plus discourse
can be considered a guided meditation. Bhagwan speaks directly
to the purpose of meditation and the nature of the mindnot
as an intellectual exercise, but as an energetic experience.
What is different at
the weekend seminar?
Bhagwan works with a very
small group of 8-10 people making the energetic work very palpable.
In addition, the weekend seminars are 5 hours with 10 minute
breaks each hour. This makes for a seamless experience of ever-deepening
meditation. The time actually goes quite quickly. The seminar
includes periods of silence, discourse and question/answer. Food
is served during a longer break at lunch.
Why should I come to
the seminar? It seems expensive and I can meditate on my own.
The author and teacher
Reshad Feild summed this up with a simple statement: Knowledge
is transmitted, not acquired hence the importance
of working with a teacher.
So, what is actually
"transmitted?"
Imagine choppy waves in
a windy harbor. This scene is similar to the experience of living
in the mind. We see The teacher, through deep inner silence,
transmits an energy that settles the choppy water. The stillness
reveals a clarity to see deep under the surface.
This analogy explains
both our interconnectedness and how the teacher works energetically
with a group of people. By bringing about a mental stillness,
pupils can begin to discover and experience pure consciousness
or Self. The teacher provides support to experience one's Self,
beyond the mind.
What about the cost?
Regarding the cost, Bhagwan
will visit three locations in North America (Toronto, Atlanta
and Haddonfield NJ). The expenses for airfare and accomodations
are quite high and are shared among a small base of pupils.
From
Bhagwan:
"The truth or secret
of the world is latent within you. It is within your reach and
up to you to investigate it (through meditation) or else continue
to identify with the mind's projections (body, mind and world)
and suffer as we have been doing for thousands of years.
I invite you to join me
in this discovery -- the discovery of the Self."
